About Grace
What is Grace Episcopal? Founded in 2008, Grace is Bakersfield “oldest” Episcopal Church. That’s because we were formed after the majority of the diocese left the Episcopal Church over a disagreement about basic human rights. We support them, specifically gay rights and women’s ordination. The ones who left, don’t.
Grace is warm, friendly, inviting, loving, accepting, and, at times, quite funny. It can also be challenging. But then again, so is following Christ. Grace is a good place to worship and pray, grow and play. I hope you come and join us, and find that out for yourself. Stef Donev "I've been an Episcopalian from birth. I've investigated other denominations and faiths, but have always come back. Sometimes I think that they could never write the book "The Episcopal Church for Dummies," because you have to have brains, imagination and strong personal beliefs to truly "get it." I don't think that other denominations truly understand what we Episcopalians are arguing about-- because we don't have a set of beliefs or really any church dogma written in stone-- maybe it's just one of those faiths where you just have to Be Here in order to fully understand it. We have taken the "best of," in ways-- Catholic and Protestant-- and have added a large dose of tolerance, free will and self-determination, along with a strong love of God despite the fact that traditionally, Episcopalians don't wear their religion on their sleeves. Being an Episcopalian is a personal journey--best traveled with like-minded friends. " - Susan Ohanneson, Parishoner & Altar Guild Leader Grace was recently showcased in a Bakersfield Express article about the evolution of the local Episcopal/Anglican community. Christ has no body on earth but yours; no hands but yours, no feet but yours. Your are the eyes through which He is to look with compassion on the world. Yours , the feet with which He is to go about doing good. And yours, the hands with which He is to bless us now.
