Pastoral Assistant
Mary Webb
"For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink; …I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.” Matt 25: 35-36
These words from Matthew’s gospel guide members of the Pastoral Ministry Team (PMT) as we seek to fulfill Christ’s teaching in ministering to the homebound and ill members of our parish. When Eucharist is shared, and we speak the words, “The Bread of Heaven,” spiritual nourishment is provided for those unable to be with the Grace community on Sundays. I am nourished as well, as are other EVs (Eucharist Visitors) who make these visits. It is our privilege to serve in this capacity where peace, warmth, camaraderie, and good humor are shared amongst us. As Pastoral Assistant, coordinating visits between those on our team and parishioners who are homebound, in hospitals, rehab, or convalescent facilities is my responsibility. Whether a short term visit for hip surgery, or ongoing, long-term contact because of Parkinson’s, volunteers on the team provide a necessary and much-appreciated link between the Grace community and those who are apart from us on Sunday. In addition, volunteers send cards and make phone calls to stay in touch. We are also currently discerning how we might partake in a ministry to prison inmates. If you are interested in becoming part of the Pastoral Ministry Team (PMT) or know of someone who would like a visit from team members, please call me at 587-0681 or e-mail maryfwebb@bak.rr.com. --Mary Bio A retired high school teacher, I have been married for 25 years to Charlie, a facilities engineer and avid fly fisherman. We have one daughter, Allie. Together we enjoy traveling, and the pleasures of the outdoors through camping, hiking, cross-country skiing, etc. Gyp, our border collie, is a good walking companion, and taking photos, and reading also engage me while Charlie quests for that Big One. |
